You'll have vision and drive, being highly motivated and self reliant, enthusiastic, bold and outward facing with excellent communication skills. Your leadership experience will enable you to inspire and motivate your direct reports, assistant warden and administrator, and strong team of 60 volunteers. Your vision and enthusiasm will bring the team together to deliver benefits for nature and develop opportunities to engage with visitors and local communities to support our work both locally and nationally.
Highnam Woods is renowned as the place to hear singing nightingales in spring. You will enhance the 120ha woodland, ensuring it continues to provide homes for lesser spotted woodpecker, dormouse and Bechstein and barbastelle bats, whilst enabling visitors to experience the joys a diverse, resilient well managed woodland has to offer.
Nagshead is a special place for pied flycatcher, redstart, wood warbler and lesser spotted woodpecker among many other species, With the recent re-introduction of pine marten to the area and the controversial feral wild boar being widespread this is a dynamic and evolving landscape for wildlife. Working in collaboration with Forestry England, influencing and enhancing their management is an essential part of the role.
Working effectively with partners in this landscape is essential and through the Foresters' Forest Landscape Partnership Scheme you will have the opportunity to create lasting relationships with partners including Natural England, Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust, Forestry England and many more.
