Seasonal Field Ornithologists/Ecologists (Scotland)

Stagfire Ecological Surveys Ltd is looking for experienced staff to help with a variety of projects in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland for the spring and summer breeding season. The positions are available from late March 2020 through to August 2020. There may be the possibility to extend this for suitable candidates.

The positions will be based in the Highlands and Islands and will involve field survey work, predominantly bird related (Vantage Point, Breeding Bird Surveys, ECoW roles) and some wider ecology roles.


  • A valid UK driving licence;
  • Ability to prove that you have the right to work in the UK;
  • Ornithological field work experience;
  • A willingness to travel and work in remote locations on your own or as part of a team;
  • A willingness to work some unsociable hours around dawn and dusk and some weekends;
  • A high level of knowledge of the breeding birds (particularly upland birds) of the Highlands of Scotland;
  • Physically fit and good navigation skills.


  • Previous survey experience in other ecological areas (e.g. botany, mammals, bats);
  • ECoW experience;
  • Schedule 1 licence holder;
  • Experience of working on construction sites – CSCS card holder;
  • A diligent approach to data collection and Microsoft Office skills;
  • Marine wildlife guiding experience;
  • Terrestrial wildlife guiding experience.
