Principal Countryside Access Officer


Salary range: £37,849 - £44,632

Work location: County Hall, Oxford

Hours per week: 37 - we are open to discussions about flexible working

Oxfordshire’s countryside is a hugely valuable resource and we’re looking for an experienced countryside access professional to lead the Public Rights of Way discipline for the authority.

About the Role:

The role requires excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, combined with a passion for countryside access with the aim of providing a modern, responsive and effective service delivering good quality access to the countryside for the county’s residents and visitors across the 2600-mile public rights of way network.

About You:

We are looking for a knowledgeable, enthusiastic and dynamic countryside access professional who understands the importance of the public rights of way network in a broader strategic context and has an applied technical and legal knowledge with a proven record of achievement. Not afraid to experiment and develop new initiatives in partnership with a wide range of stakeholders including voluntary & special interest groups.

The post is on a career grade with wide salary scales. Starting point is negotiable depending on skills and experience, but we are looking to appoint towards the top of the grade where appropriate with the potential extension to a higher grade for exceptional candidates following a grading review process.
