Parsonage Down NNR is home to Cherry Lodge Farm, Natural England’s only working farm and one of the largest most diverse calcareous grassland reserves in the UK. This iconic chalk grassland site is part of Salisbury Plain SAC and home to the oldest breeding herd of English Longhorn cattle. The Farm Manager will be responsible for the day to day operation of Cherry Lodge Farm, a mixed farming system with extensively grazed cattle and sheep.
The Farm Manager will be part of a dedicated and innovative team with aspirations to create a sustainable high nature value farm. This post is a unique opportunity for someone with a passion for farming and wildlife, joining at an exciting time of opportunity and change.
The successful applicant will be an experienced livestock manager with a proven track record of managing cattle and sheep. They will be competent in the diverse range of farming operations involved in running a mixed farm, including operating farm machinery, all aspects of livestock husbandry and developing local markets for farm produce.
An ability to work as part of a team, with a diverse range of people and manage workloads will be important. An understanding of the relevant legal obligations will also be required e.g. Health & Safety, Cross Compliance and Open Access legislation.
