Contracts Manager

Salary: £30,000 - £35,000, dependent on experience.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week (full time)

Duration of post: Permanent

Location: River Stewardship Company office (Sheffield), with travel primarily across Yorkshire and the North East. Flexible and remote working considered.

Annual Leave: 34 days, including bank holidays.

Pension: 8% of gross income contribution by the company

Introduction to River Stewardship Company

River Stewardship Company is a social enterprise with a rapidly growing portfolio of commercial waterway maintenance projects with the Environment Agency, local authorities, riparian landowners and others. Through commercial or grant-funded projects, we also deliver programmes of community engagement (educational activities in schools, volunteer days, festivals, events and other activities) designed to connect, inspire and empower local people to improve themselves, their community and their local patch of waterway. We call this programme of community engagement and social impact activity ‘Riverlution’.

Job role

The Contracts Manager will develop and manage a portfolio of commercial projects within the Yorkshire area (and elsewhere, as required), as well as working with the Operations Manager to assist with overseeing operations and managing the programme of work.

The Contracts Manager will be responsible to the Chief Executive and have line management responsibilities for a small number of staff from the delivery team, as required. The Contracts Manager will also work closely with volunteers and other community interest organisations as well as with clients and sub-contractors. They will comprise a key part of the executive Leadership Team, and report in to the non-executive Board of Directors as and when required.

Person Specification

The Contracts Manager will be an experienced, well-connected individual with strong commercial acumen. They will have a proven track-record of developing and managing multiple commercial projects, in the fields of conservation, landscaping or construction. They will have a good knowledge of health and safety, and preferably have undergone NEBOSH or IOSH Managing Safely training. They will have experience of managing staff and subcontractors, have excellent interpersonal skills and can communicate at all levels through various media.
