IRC87751 - £24,075 pa -37.5 hours a week - Perm role - West Lakes, Cumbria
We are looking for an experienced Woodland Ranger to manage one of the most beautiful countryside portfolios in the National Trust – the West Lakes, Cumbria. There are huge opportunities here balancing conservation, cultural landscape, estate maintenance, relationships with farmers and visitor engagement; which is both challenging and rewarding. A part of this role will include working with and through partner bodies such as Natural England, the Lake District National Park, and others so you’ll need experience in partnership working. This role provides a unique mix of hands-on practical work, conservation management of woodlands, and working with volunteers and partners to deliver projects.
Please note the start date for this role will be the beginning of March 2020.
As the Area Ranger (Woodlands) for West Lakes you will be responsible for coordinating all woodland management across the portfolio and offering woodland advice to all staff as necessary. This work will involve working with the ranger and forestry teams to ensure the forestry work programme is completed to budget, generates income to the property and meets UKWAS compliance standards. In addition, the role will ensure that all compliance is met, particularly acting as a lead to tree safety management and Countryside Stewardship across the property. The role will involve working with partner organisations and tenant farmers regarding all tree and woodland related issues. There is a great opportunity to raise the profile of trees and woodlands as part of the Land, Outdoors and Nature strategy which will require creative ways to tell the woodland story and engage with visitors. The role also includes working with the wider ranger team to deliver great conservation within the in-hand woodlands, as well as working with volunteers. You will be based at The Lodge in Wasdale but will travel throughout the area.
