Assistant Warden (Seaton Wetlands)

£19,171 to £19,554 per annum

Seaton Wetlands, Seaton

Full-time (Friday to Tuesday), 1-year fixed term

About us

East Devon is independently recognised as an outstanding place and so it follows that its council must also strive to be outstanding. Everything we do is aimed at ensuring that East Devon is a place that people want to live in, work in, visit and enjoy. Our ambition is to be an outstanding council which works together with local people to create great value services and an outstanding community, economy and environment for East Devon, now and for future generations.

About the role

The Countryside Team is responsible for managing twelve local nature reserves, running an environmental education service and supporting an ever growing volunteer network, as well as delivering an extensive public events programme.

Working exclusively on the award-winning Seaton Wetlands nature reserve complex, you will engage in a wide variety of wardening functions to monitor and maintain wildlife and habitats, ensuring Seaton Wetlands is an interesting and enjoyable place to visit. Working Friday to Tuesday inclusive, your days will consist of collecting and analysing wildlife population data, monitoring and maintaining site facilities including invasive predator controls, engaging visitors and the local community as well as assisting volunteers to take a practical role in protecting the environment, all set against the stunning backdrop of the Axe Estuary.

About you

With an ability to recognise common wetland bird species and a good understanding of and demonstrable enthusiasm for the natural environment, you will be comfortable engaging with visitors to the wetlands, whether family groups or specialist birders and have an appetite to lean and develop your skills.

Able to work at weekends, you will have the practical know-how to carry out general repairs and maintenance across the site as well as a willingness to engage in a wide variety of site tasks to ensure excellent habitat quality and visitor experiences. A qualification in biological / environmental science or nature conservation would be a distinct advantage.
