Groundwork Northamptonshire are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our team. As Ranger, you will lead on the management, maintenance and development of Twywell Hills and Dales open space for the benefit of nature and local people. It’s a really exciting site, which is well used and has lots of areas of interest. Dog Walkers are a key group we need to engage with along with the local residents and wider groups who could benefit from the site.

You will need to have a qualification in Countryside Management (or equivalent), along with effective administrative and organisational skills, and an ability to prioritise your own work programme.

As part of this role, you will:

  • Manage, maintain and develop a variety of habitats and open spaces according to the business/management plans of the funder together with updating plans as sites evolve.

  • Undertake day-to-day management of Twywell Hills and Dales and act as site liaison responsible for resolving issues for each site.

  • Oversee and deliver the implementation of the landscape management contract arrangements on behalf of the Land Trust through annual task orientated work programming and delivery using contractors (as needed).

  • Actively engage, encourage and involve the local community in the development of the sites as nature reserves, which meets the needs of local people as a wildlife and community resource. Engaging with Dog owners is essential as they are a considerable user of the site currently.

Competence with a range of relevant small power tools is essential, alongside a desire to take a leading role in the development of the site. Regular travel to the site is required for this role, so you must have a full driving licence. A work vehicle will initially not be available so you will need to be able to use your own vehicle (travel expenses will be paid). We hope to secure a work vehicle as the project develops.
